When patients forget their meds

Ever had a patient look at you blankly when you ask about their medication adherence? I had one the other day who said they thought the pills were just ‘suggestions.’ Sometimes I wonder if it’s the meds that need the accountability session. Anyone else facing this reality in the field?

I totally get that! I had a patient say they thought the refill reminders were for fun. Maybe we should start offering ‘medication accountability sessions’ like it’s a workout class.

It’s wild how some patients treat their meds like a buffet — only picking what they feel like! Maybe we need to implement a ‘medication coach’? @iris_wells303, have you thought about using reminders that come with a bit of humor?

I had a patient who thought taking their meds was like choosing dessert — just when they wanted to! I started using a pill organizer to make it more visual for them. Have you tried anything like that, @mike_lawson75?
